Sartorius Stedim Biotech has set up an on-site technical support centre in Singapore designed to help its biopharmaceutical industry customers relocate production to the country.

Sartorius, which is based in France, is to be set up within Temasek Polytechnic University - one of Singapore's leading universities - to provide the service.

The building offers a well-equipped pilot plant station as well as specific training courses and seminars covering theoretical principles and process optimisation.

The centre has been furnished with ultra-modern equipment. In addition to traditional cell culture reactors, the product portfolio used includes downstream technology equipment, disposable bioreactors, the latest disposable mixing equipment and fluid management systems in order to perform ultra-modern aseptic processing of biopharmaceutical media on the basis of disposables technologies.

In view of the current establishment and future expansion of large production sites by international pharmaceuticals and biotechnology groups in Singapore, the new Technical Support Center 'PASS' (Process Application Service Singapore) will play a particular role in transferring the customers' processes from their development centres to their new production sites, a spokesman said.

Dr Joerg Lindenblatt, vice president of sales Asia, said: "With the new Technical Support Center, Sartorius Stedim Biotech offers its customers optimum technical support on site with immediate effect.

He added: 'PASS is another important component of our global support network for our customers. It allows us to ensure consistent quality and technical expertise for our global key accounts. As a result, we can significantly improve the safety and efficiency of relocating production sites from Europe and the USA to Singapore in conjunction with our customers."
