BASF is launching two new tablet disintegrants that are particularly suitable for the manufacture of very small tablets.

The new disintegrants - Kollidon CL-F and Kollidon CL-SF - ensure that tablets disintegrate quickly, releasing the active pharmaceutical ingredients rapidly and increasing the bioavailability of the active.

The fast action is achieved through the special swelling properties of the polymers Kollidon CL-F and Kollidon CL-SF. Both products are also characterised by a small particle size. "In this way, our customers can achieve uniform distribution, even in small tablets," says Dr Hubertus Folttmann, who is responsible for the global marketing of pharmaceutical auxiliaries at BASF.

The consistency of tablets is also important for patients: "It is essential that all the ingredients feel good in the mouth. Here, Kollidon CL-SF, especially, contributes to a pleasant feeling in the mouth," says Dr Folttmann.

The new tablet disintegrants are additions to the existing Kollidon CL range and will be presented to the pharmaceutical industry for the first time at the conference of the Controlled Release Society in Vienna, Austria on July 22-26, 2006.
