More and more companies are looking to make control panels smaller and easier to configure in order to save factory space and time.

For this reason automation component producer Carlo Gavazzi introduced a new pluggable solid state relay (SSR) at this year's at PPMA. The ThyRex is the smallest 32Arms SSR on the market at only 22.5mm x 76mm x 56mm. This means it can save 35% of control panel area (footprint) and 50% panel depth.

The plug-in system allows technical staff to pre-wire the cable harness outside the panel, reducing the time and skill necessary to complete the final panel assembly. The modules are suitable for mains voltage anywhere and can be DIN rail mounted when used with the appropriate DIN rail clip and heat sink. They use the same mounting hole spacing as standard hockey pugs, enabling their use in standard panels.

Speedy assembly is made possible because both power and control terminals plug directly into the premountable base module. Panel builders can also choose the termination style - Faston, screw or spring - that meets their requirements.

The modularity of the new relay system allows designers to build the precise number of relays and switching configurations required for any given application.
