Solvias cGMP kilo lab to come onstream in June

The new kilo-scale cGMP manufacturing plant being constructed by Solvias in Basel, Switzerland, is set to become operational during the second quarter of this year.


The new kilo-scale cGMP manufacturing plant being constructed by Solvias in Basel, Switzerland, is set to become operational during the second quarter of this year.

The plant, which represents an investment of US$1.5m (Euro 1.2m), will be equipped with multipurpose reactors in glass-lined steel with capacities from 30 to 100 litres, offering the the ability to manufacture quantities up to Phase II clinical trials. The plant will be capable of running reactions at temperatures ranging from -60 to +200°C.

The company has also announced a major investment in its solid state development division in Basel. It has approved spending of CHF1.5m (€1m) on HTS equipment for polymorph screening, which should be delivered within the next four to six weeks. Expected to be up and running during the second quarter, the equipment should be available for customer use by late Q2 or early Q3, according to Dr Michael Quirmbach, product management chemical development as Solvias.
