Fully sold several months ahead of opening, the exhibitions welcomed 4,470 attendees and over 180 exhibitors.
"We've been delighted both by the market reaction and strong bookings for 2009," said said CPhI event director Annemieke Timmers. "Enthusiasm for the format and networking value recalled the 2006 debut of CPhI India. All the signs are that the CPhI and P-MEC brands can enjoy similar market value and success in serving key South American markets, including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Venezuela."
P-MEC event manager Haf Cennydd, said: "Brazil is a key manufacturing hub for Central and South America and we were delighted with the high levels of customer interest in the P-MEC machinery and equipment exhibits."
Valued at approximately US$33bn, and with a 13% growth rate - double the world average - the markets of Latin and Central America are joining China and India as regions of dramatic future opportunities for pharma-related services.
Brazil naturally led the visitor countries - with 73.2%, followed by Argentina (4.5%), India (4.0%) and USA (1.7%). The exhibitions were held at Brazil's newest convention facility - the Centro de Convencá»"˜es Sulamerica at Cidade Nova, opened in 2007.
Events included the "First Latin American Pharma Business Forum" and the "Match & Meet Programme", with over 200 attendees - and coincided with the networking bonus of Brazil's "6th Technical-Scientific Pharmaceutical Production Congress", staged at the convention centre over the same three days.
Key Brazilian pharma trade organisations supporting the exhibitions included ABRIFAR, ABIMIP, ABIQUIF, ABIFINA, Alanac, Pro-Genericos and Sindusfarma.
The 2009 CPhI and P-MEC South America exhibitions will be held on 26 - 28 August at Sao Paulo's Transamerica Expo Center. Brazil will next welcome the events in 2011.
