Sterile media preparation on plate

A system for the automatic preparation of sterile nutrient media plates is now available in the UK from Fred Baker Scientific, of Runcorn. The AgarStar steriliser prepares between 500ml and 9l of media to a high standard and features menu-driven programming and precision temperature regulation and monitoring.

The stainless steel vessel has two safety thermostats, pressure controls and ticket printer for traceability, as well as a sterile filter for ventilation that prevents contamination.

The PetriStar Plate Pourer can handle plate sizes of 50-150mm and the lid is raised from the plate only during the filling operation to minimise the contamination risk. The plates are labelled by hot stamping while empty, and sterility is maintained in the filling area by means of a UV lamp.
