Syngene International, a global CRDMO, has received a silver rating in the EcoVadis sustainability index.
This places the company in the top 15% of those assessed in the past year.
EcoVadis offers business sustainability ratings across 21 criteria across four themes, which include the environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.
Approximately 100,000 companies are assessed by the organisation every year.
To achieve a silver rating, Syngene has invested into a number of sustainability initiatives, including:
- Renewable energy: 82% of all energy on the company's campus is now from renewable sources
- Recycling waste: 96% of the waste Syngene produces is now recycled
- Saving water: Approximately 45% of water is recycled or reused
- Prioritising domestic suppliers: 70% of Syngene's total procurement is from domestic suppliers in India
The company also publishes an annual report, which outlines its decarbonisation pathway and collaborations with its suppliers and stakeholders to reduce their collective environmental impact.
“Achieving the EcoVadis silver rating reflects the broad commitment we make every day to run our business in a responsible and sustainable way. The award reflects the substantial progress we have made in reducing our environmental footprint as well as our strong commitment to good corporate governance. We are committed to continuing our efforts, using our scientific expertise and new technology to provide scientific solutions for clients while respecting the planet and the needs of our communities today and for generations to come,” commented Jonathan Hunt, Managing Director and CEO of Syngene International.
