Walk around any pharma manufacturing conference this year and the word "peptide" comes up in almost every conversation — usually in the same breath as GLP-1.

The peptide pipeline is changing shape: is manufacturing keeping pace?

The commercial success of weight-loss and diabetes peptides has triggered a wave of capacity investment throughout the CDMO sector.

Solid-phase and liquid-phase synthesis lines are being built at a scale that would have seemed implausible a decade ago.

But there’s a risk associated with letting one drug class define how an entire industry thinks about peptide manufacturing.

The molecules now moving through clinical development look quite different … and the infrastructure best suited to one doesn’t necessarily suit the other.

The pipeline behind the GLP-1 headlines has grown dramatically in both size and breadth.
