Training initiative wins CIA award for Syngenta

UK company Syngenta, of Huddersfield, is the first winner of the Chemical Industry Training and Development Award, a new category in this year's CIA Awards. Syngenta devised a Young Persons' Sponsorship and Development scheme, initiated to attract school leavers to the chemical industry. The award was sponsored by DuPont, and Syngenta beat off strong competition from five other chemical companies: Associated Octel, AstraZeneca, BASF Seal Sands, Contract Chemicals, and GlaxoSmithKline.

According to the judges, Syngenta's new scheme underlined the company's commitment to its own future and that of the UK chemical industry as a whole.
