The need to increase production of Roche Pharmaceutical's oral weight loss drug Xenical brought a sizeable opportunity for Tycon Containers, of Manchester in the UK.
Tycon has installed an integrated intermediate bulk container (IBC) filling and discharge station at Roche Ireland's plant at Clarecastle, County Clare, to overcome problems associated with the handling of wet, bulk powders and facilitate increased output. The new, automated system replaces manual handling and emptying of containers that could not meet the demands for higher production.
The equipment incorporates a BPK cone valve system with interchangeable containers for dust-free handling of bulk materials. Product is fed automatically from filters directly into the IBCs, which are mounted on a weigh platform. The powder leaving the filters is wet and is stored in the IBCs prior to discharge into dryers and second stage processing.
