Unique agitator for optimum drying performance

The core to good agitated nutsch filter dryer (ANFD) performance relies heavily on the design of the agitator. Powder Systems Ltd’s (PSL’s) filter dryers provide extremely robust drying performance under a variety of conditions, due to a unique agitator design that has been refined over a 22-year period.

PSL agitators incorporate a series of sharp curved blades, which are spaced at different centres on each arm. When moving and lifting the cake between the gaps within the agitator, the product moves at a lower velocity and is subsequently swept by the second arm of the blade, thus achieving efficient mixing by different velocities.

The agitator blades are curved to achieve penetration into difficult cakes without undue product stress. PSL agitators are always fabricated in one piece with the shaft welded to the arms, which removes any direct leak path of heat transfer fluid, through a bolted joint between the shaft and arms.

PSL’s filtration and drying products range from R&D and small scale production to bulk production and full process systems, for highly potent and valuable products including sterile, oncology, hormone and many other pharmaceutical compounds.
