Westfalia Separator, a UK-based subsidiary of GEA group, has introduced a new cleaning unit to the chemical and pharmaceutical processing market: the PharmaCIP (cleaning-in-place), for servicing liquid/solid separation systems.

The system is a skid mounted cleaning module for standalone operation or process integration, and is also available as a mobile plug and play wheeled variant. The PharmaCIP can therefore be used to facilitate a single cleaning option on product changeover to prevent contamination, or as a mobile CIP unit for multiple operations with specific cleaning protocols.

The unit can be used to clean separation machines, vessels components or pipe systems, and the dosing and heating of cleaning agents can be controlled and adapted, Westfalia claim. Acid and caustic cleaners are presented in drums and fed in by suction.

The company, headquartered in Milton Keynes, has also developed an adapted version of the system for use in biotechnology, the BioCIP.
