ACHEMA 2024 champions a competitive pharmaceutical industry

Published: 21-Jun-2024

More than 2800 exhibitors from 56 nations — as well as 106,001 attendees from 141 countries — gathered in Frankfurt for ACHEMA 2024 to showcase the latest equipment and processes for the pharmaceutical industry

ACHEMA, a triennial trade show held in the Messe convention centre, brings together businesses from all facets of the process industries — including pharma, chemical and food.

It was established in 1920 and continues to unite companies from across the globe to network, buy and sell their machinery, technology and services, as well as to keep up to date with current industry innovations and developments.

According to the ACHEMA committee, many companies involved in this year’s show saw great traffic to their stands, with many meaningful interactions had between buyers and sellers alike — as well as a strong press presence.

“The exhibitors we spoke to were extremely satisfied with their ACHEMA experience; in some cases, there was so much going on at the stands that the staff couldn’t keep up. Many of the discussions were directly related to projects or investments,” confirms Chair of the ACHEMA Committee and CEO of Linde Engineering, Jürgen Nowicki.

Congress attendance figures ... “higher than ever before

Themed to reflect key industry innovation areas

This year’s innovation themes were process, pharma, green, lab, digital and hydrogen, which, according to the organisers, were all of great interest to the visitors. Industry partners, SMEs, institutions and associations all helped to highlight these prevalent topics through a range of talks and activities.

Syntegon — a global provider of machinery for the pharmaceutical industry — was a key exhibitor at ACHEMA and took to the floor to showcase its novel high-end pharmaceutical filling solution, assembling pens and autoinjectors in Hall 3.1.

Commenting on the company’s experience at the recent trade show, Torsten Türling, CEO of Syntegon, said: “Visitors were especially interested in our new value proposition and developments. We brought to life how Syntegon supports its customers with seamless processes, innovative technologies and lifecycle sustainability.” Torsten Türling, CEO of Syntegon

“ACHEMA provided the ideal platform to showcase our solutions to current challenges in the pharmaceutical industry, including Annex 1, high-value drugs and the increasing use of RTU containers. As well as this, our Telstar acquisition announcement — which will enable us to offer even more seamless line solutions from a single source — was well received by our customers.”

Every second participant came from abroad

Extracurricular elements prove a hit

During the 5-day event, there were more than 900 lectures, discussion panels and workshops to attend, with Dr Andreas Förster, Executive Director of DECHEMA reporting congress attendance figures being “higher than ever before.”

Presentations on pharma, life sciences and digitalisation were among the best attended, keeping industry members apprised of new advancements in the field. Highlights included “Advancing the Next Generation of Cell and Gene Therapies” from Sadik H. Kassim and “Artificial Intelligence for the Process Industry” from Fabien Mangeant.

Dr Björn Mathes, CEO of DECHEMA, commented: "This ACHEMA gave many industry members access to the best new ideas in the market, having the potential to shape innovations for the years to come. During the 5 days, 63% of attendants were from outside of Germany, making this year’s show the most international of all time. Additionally, every second participant (48.9%) came from
abroad, which highlights the true worldwide reach ACHEMA has.”

The next ACHEMA will take place in Frankfurt from 14 to 18 June 2027.
