Published: 1-Feb-2003

US-based Albemarle Corporation has combined its contract research, custom manufacturing, pharmaceutical and agricultural intermediates businesses, along with its five multipurpose sites at Tyrone (PA), Baton Rouge (LA), and Dayton (OH), all in the US; Thann in France; and Teesport in the UK to form a new Fine Chemistry Services and Intermediates Business Unit.

The move will allow Albemarle to focus on its pharmaceutical and agricultural customers, offering them global services and products from initial bench research to piloting and commercial production. The new unit will continue to be reported externally in the company's fine chemicals segment.

'We will commercialise all new products in existing Albemarle assets, lowering capital costs and allowing flexible production schedules,' said John Nicols, vice president, fine chemicals
