Alpharma refines packaging design

Published: 1-Jan-2004

Alpharma, the UK manufacturer of solid dose generic medicines, is launching refinements to its packaging in response to feedback from pharmacists and patients since it redesigned its packs in 2002.

The refinements aim to improve accessibility of the products and take into account and comply with Best Practice Guidance on the Labelling and Packaging of Medicine. Proactive research has also identified areas for improvement.

The changes involve refinements to several areas of the packaging. On the end panel the critical text has been enlarged, the coloured 'swirl' removed and strength differentiation made clearer. The barcode has been moved from the dispensing label area to the side panel to aid legibility of the text on the dispensing label.

Statutory warnings and the route of administration have been included to comply with Best Practice Guidance on the Labelling and Packaging of Medicines. Some different background colour tints have been introduced to improve product differentiation, while some colours have been reallocated to avoid confusion of co-prescribed medicines.
