Argonaut Technologies, based in Foster City, CA, US, has introducted of a new technology that combines the effectiveness of Argonaut's resins with specially designed cartridges that improve yield and accelerate purification.

Specifically, the MP-TsOH cartridges provide drug discovery and medicinal chemists with a means to increase the purification throughput of amines, an important class of drug compounds.

'The speed with which a chemist can get pure amine samples make these cartridges invaluable, whether it is in making relatively large amounts of material for medicinal chemistry purposes or multiple compounds for early stage drug discovery,' said Howard D. Goldstein, senior vice president of Argonaut Technologies. 'These new cartridges are already under evaluation at major pharmaceutical companies. We believe that they will prove to be the method of choice going forward for amine purification.'

Conventional methods for amine synthesis require time-consuming purification procedures once the synthesis is complete. MP-TsOH cartridges take advantage of unique properties of amines to be able to separate them rapidly from contaminants. After the completion of synthesis, drug discovery and medicinal chemists apply a simple washing procedure to the cartridges to rapidly recover amines in high purity. These cartridges have been optimised for this application and offer superior capacity and higher purity products than traditional methodologies.
