Newman Labelling Systems, a provider to the pharmaceutical sector, has installed one of its latest lines into a manufacturing plant in Brazil.

Newman's Container Transfer System (CTS) was installed for new customer Cristalia in Sao Paulo, alongside a Newman VAL 550 labeller.

The CTS is linked to a crack detection machine at Cristalia's plant to provide a fully automatic, integrated solution and remove the need for

manual transfer of fragile ampoules to the labelling machine.

At each stage of the transfer process ampoules are handled without the need for synchronised starwheels or feed screws, ensuring ampoule breakage is eliminated, whilst at the same time providing an accumulation buffer between the labelling system and inspection equipment.

The CTS design prevents wastage from damaged product, eliminates down time caused by having to clear up broken product and removes the security and health risks associated with manual handling.

Newman's VAL550 is a high-speed labelling system. As well as suitable for ampoules, the VAL 550 can be used with vials, syringes, bottles and cartridges. Combining the latest electronic systems with high quality mechanical engineering, the VAL550 provides accurate and reliable high speed labelling up to 600 cpm.

Tomas Erdelyi of Ertec, Newman's agent in Brazil, said: "The CTS designed by Newman suited a specific difficult layout and also provided a Buffer for Cristalia's high speed line. The Newman system can operate as a tray fed system when necessary, in cases when previously already inspected ampoules are used or when breakdown of any of the machines feeding the VAL 550 occurs, providing Cristalia with a system with unrivalled versatility."
