Call for curb on marine prospecting

Marine species inhabiting depths below 4,000m, might be endangered by pharmaceutical researchers prospecting for samples, the UN University has warned. The researchers want to isolate the biochemicals that protect the species from extreme conditions, for use in human medicine.

A study* has called for international rules to ensure high-tech submarines do not damage sensitive eco-systems.
