CarboGen and AMCIS have initiated a collaborative effort with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) to develop a software system for the simulation, design and optimisation of Simulated Moving Bed (SMB) chromatography.

The program focuses on the optimisation of SMB separations, and the creation of model parameters for the design of experiments. The software will enable significant improvement in development time and productivity. It will be possible to save time during plant start-up since good operating parameters leading to high product purities can be found more quickly and efficiently. Additionally, the improved productivity leads to a shorter separation time and lower overall solvent consumption.

CarboGen and AMCIS are owned by Solutia Inc, of Missouri, US, and operate as the corporate parent's Pharmaceutical Services Division.
