CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society, has announced the launch of CAS Newton, science-smart agentic AI built specifically for scientific discovery.
CAS Newton is based on more than 150 years of curated scientific knowledge from CAS scientists, ensuring accuracy and rigour.
By providing AI-generated insights grounded in this comprehensive knowledge, CAS stated that the new agentic AI offers reliable answers that help researchers navigate ambiguity and conflicting results, accelerating their progress.
The tool shows promise: according to the company, early feedback shows that three out of four users find CAS Newton's answers more trustworthy than those from other AI tools.
"CAS provides the most authoritative, comprehensive and rigorously curated chemistry data available," said Professor John Yates, Scripps Research Institute.
"Developing intelligent AI agents on top of this foundation will significantly expand access and improve efficiency."
CAS Newton will empower users, transforming casual users into highly effective superusers.
The company added in its announcement that user feedback has already indicated that CAS Newton is the top agentic AI for science.
It engages users in dialogue about complex scientific questions, retaining context as inquiries progress.
It then refines questions and synthesises results across multiple steps. This helps researchers access trusted information more efficiently while ensuring scientific rigour across disciplines.

CAS Newton pairs science‑smart agentic AI with the reliability and governance of the CAS Content Collection so researchers can move from question to grounded answers they can verify.
"It extends beyond a single interface, meeting teams where they work, including within secure environments that allow organisations to apply CAS Newton alongside proprietary data. This gives R&D leaders and researchers a practical path to innovate faster without compromising trust."
R&D organisations can use CAS Newton in secure environments, integrating it with proprietary data through MCPs, APIs and third-party AI platforms.
This will allow teams to innovate with their own data while ensuring the reliability and governance of CAS data in their research workflows.
In line with CAS's ethical AI approach, CAS Newton operates securely, ensuring user input remains confidential and that queries and results are not used for cross-user model training.
Users can now access CAS Newton within CAS SciFinder, CAS BioFinder and through a standalone CAS Newton interface.
