CEL completes project

Project management and process engineering company CEL International, of Coventry in the UK, has recently completed a project for US biotechnology giant Genzyme in record time. The project was carried out at Genzyme's site at Haverhill, UK, and will produce an API for its Renagel drug. CEL is already building a further plant for Genzyme to increase production as part of a £55m (US$80m) site development.

Construction on the plant began in November 2000 and was completed more than two weeks ahead of schedule and well within the budget, which is attributed to team working and the use of leading edge fast track project tools. The project scope included reaction, isolation, purification and drying stages and high quality clean rooms for product handling.
