CIA announces 2010 Chemical Industry Awards shortlist
Pharma companies including AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly and GSK are among those shortlisted
Despite another challenging year for the economy, awards organiser the UK’s Chemical Industries Association says this year’s entries matched the record-breaking crop from 2009.
Commenting on the entries, Steve Elliott, CIA chief executive, said: ‘During the recent election campaign there was much talk of a ‘rebalancing’ of the economy in favour of modern high-tech manufacturing. The message to our new ministers is that the chemical and pharmaceutical industry - contributing over £30m every day to the UK balance of trade - must be at the heart of this rebalancing.’
He added that the award categories seek to capture the best illustrations of leadership, ranging from environment and skills through to reputation and low carbon.
‘In particular I would like to highlight the quality of entries to the Innovation Award as an indication that the UK chemical sector is emerging from the global economic downturn with new ideas, new potential for growth and a world leader in high-tech, efficient manufacturing.’
