Conference to highlight RFID concept

Published: 1-Oct-2003

A revolutionary new concept, DDMS (Drug Delivery Management System), which applies radio frequency identification (RFID) to pharmaceutical blister packaging to improve patient compliance, will be presented at the forthcoming Pira conference 'Smart and Intelligent Packaging', which takes place on 28-29 October in Barcelona, Spain.

Mark Niemiec, president of DDMS Holdings, will describe the concept, which uses wireless RFID technology to allow 'real time' monitoring of drug compliance in any setting, including clinical trials, hospitals and at home. The technology can monitor when a pill is removed from the unit dose cell.

The compliance data from the DDMS enhanced blisterpack can be communicated wirelessly from the reader to a website where the data can be accessed by those interested in the patient's health: for example, doctors, family members, clinical trial management companies or pharmaceutical companies.
