Daptomycin plant opened in Italy

Cubist Pharmaceuticals and DSM Fine Chemicals have opened a manufacturing facility for the commercial production of bulk daptomycin at DSM's fermentation site in Capua, Italy. Daptomycin (Cidecin) is the first in a new class of antibiotics active against virtually all Gram-positive bacteria, and is currently in Phase III trials.
