Icelandic company, deCODE genetics has appointed Dr Goeran Ando, chief executive officer of Celltech, to the company's board of directors, effective immediately.


Icelandic company, deCODE genetics has appointed Dr Goeran Ando, chief executive officer of Celltech, to the company's board of directors, effective immediately.

'We are very pleased to announce Goeran's appointment to the board,' said Kari Stefansson, ceo of deCODE. 'Goeran brings with him many years of experience and leadership in both the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, and a firm understanding of the opportunities and challenges of turning breakthrough research into products for the market. He is a valuable addition to our board, and we look forward to working with him.'

Ando commented: 'deCODE has rapidly become a world leader in the field of human genetics, demonstrated by its scientific achievements and impressive partnering record. I look forward to working with the board as they progress novel insights into serious diseases towards high-value commercial products.'

He joined Celltech in April 2003 from Pharmacia Corporation, where he was executive vice president and president of r&d At Pharmacia he had executive responsibilities for business development, including mergers and acquisitions, and for manufacturing. Dr Ando's previous appointments include a period as r&d director for Glaxo Group Research, as well as senior clinical and medical positions at Astra, Bristol-Myers and Pfizer.
