Edmonton company receives C$10m boost for drug discovery

Naeja Pharmaceutical, of Edmonton, Canada is to receive a C$10.2m investment from AstraZeneca Canada over the next three years for medical research.


Naeja Pharmaceutical, of Edmonton, Canada is to receive a C$10.2m investment from AstraZeneca Canada over the next three years for medical research.

The deal will create 20 new jobs at Naeja, and focus on accelerating the development of novel pain control compounds.

Naeja specializes in pre-clinical drug discovery and contract research in multiple therapeutic areas up to the IND stage for the innovative pharmaceutical industry. The company has 50,000ft2 of laboratory facilities with corporate offices in both Edmonton and San Diego. The company will work with chemists from AstraZeneca's drug discovery centre in Montreal, Quebec, to identify potential drug candidates in the area of pain management.
