Electro-mec meets chevron challenge

Published: 19-Jan-2002

Aventis Pharma has installed two EMF3 tablet and capsule blisterpack feeders from Electro-mec (Reading) at its Dagenham site in the UK. The first machine was bought to enable the pack ing of capsules into blisters laid out in a chevron format.

The chevron format is difficult to pack effectively because the forms are at an angle, requiring a definite placement of each capsule to ensure accurate filling. The capsules will not drop naturally, which means that traditional methods such as brush box are too inconsistent.

With the EMF3, individual feed tubes are positioned over each blister, ensuring that every capsule is placed accurately. Not only are the capsules handled gently, reducing breakages and pack rejects, but a faster line speed can be achieved.

The second machine is used in conjunction with another blisterpack machine to pack standard tablets.
