Entrepreneurs aiming high

Three companies from the pharmaceutical sector are among the 200 regional finalists in the UK's National Business Awards 2004. FTSE 100 and blue chip companies compete alongside new ventures and SMEs in the search for the top business performers in each region. The Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown described the awards, sponsored by Orange and organised by Quest Media, as 'the Business Oscars'.

In the South East, Sinclair Pharma is a finalist in two categories: Business Innovation of the Year; and the Small to Medium Sized Business Award. Ceuta Healthcare is a finalist for the Award for Outstanding People Development in Wales & West Country. Another double finalist is The Specials Laboratory in the North East - for the Growth Strategy of the Year Award and for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

The winners of the regional Awards will be announced in July and will then go forward into The National Business Awards and, if short-listed, join around 1,500 captains of industry, business influencers and other VIPs at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 9 November.
