An agreement has been signed between European and Australian scientists, committing them to co-operating in developing new medicines to fight malaria.
This memorandum of understanding has been signed by Australia's Research Network for Parasitology and the EU-funded Network of Excellence on the Biology and Pathology of Malaria (BioMalPar). The deal will see these groups of scientists stage joint research projects, co-ordinate meetings, exchange students and senior scientists and create organisations promoting new antimalaria innovations.
"This should give an extra push to boost global co-operation on fundamental questions of malaria research," said a European Commission note.
