Feeder overcomes tricky shape

Published: 29-May-2001

The challenge of packing an awkward shaped tablet into a chevron blister pack format has been met by the installation of an Electro-mec EMF 1 feeder at Dutch contract packer Tjoapack.

Tablets previously had to be hand fed into the blisters, but the EMF 1 has now increased packing speeds and maintained high efficiency rates.

Chevron blister layouts are notoriously difficult to pack because the forms are at an angle, making it almost impossible for a tablet or capsule to find its way into each form, other than by definite placement. At Tjoapack, the problem was aggravated by the flat shape of the tablet, which restricted its movement on the web.

The EMF overcomes this problem by using individual feed tubes situated over each form, which ensures direct placement of each tablet.
