First Water has added novel antimicrobial gels to its range of patented hydrogel products for consumer and professional advanced moist wound care.

First aid dressings primarily protect a wound from external contamination, but also serve to absorb blood and wound fluids. First Water's systems are designed to ensure that any bacteria coming into contact with the gel or contained within the exudate are absorbed, contained and killed.

Eliminating the need for preservatives or antimicrobial agents such as silver, these new gels provide a skin-friendly environment that is antimicrobial to a broad spectrum of species. When independently challenged with C.albicans, A.niger, P.aeruginosa, S.aureus and E.coli, the gels demonstrate their effectiveness by killing these species on contact.

As well as reducing the incidence of infection, the gel systems help promote an optimal moist healing environment. They are available as a range of wound dressings from 75 x 45mm up to 200 x 200mm, and are backed with a breathable polyurethane bacterial barrier in adhesive-bordered and non-bordered versions.

First Water is a British company that develops, manufacturers and converts advanced wound dressings and medical devices based on its proprietary hydrogel technology.
