French biotech industry establishes presence in US

Published: 1-Jun-2003

Three French biotech companies have set up the Paris Region BioTeam Consortium and opened an office in Boston, Massachusetts. The office will act as a permanent representative in the US for the three partners: BioProtein Technologies, the biotechnology company specialising in the production of therapeutic proteins in the milk of transgenic rabbits; UroGene-Chrysalon, a bio-pharmaceutical company developing targeted therapeutics in urology; and the Essonne County Development Agency, which has been managing a development initiative under the name BioTeam Paris Region to link biotech clusters in France, Germany, Japan and the US.

This presence in the US will support development and partnering opportunities for the members of the consortium with the prestigious companies and research centres operating in the Massachusetts region.

The Paris Region BioTeam Consortium is part of the Paris Region BioTeam network of companies, universities, research organisations and government development agencies from the Paris region, dedicated to promote internationally the region's world-class biotech capabilities. Since its creation in 2001, the network has successfully organised initiatives in the US, Japan and Germany.

'BioProtein Technologies will benefit from having access to the exciting research and commercial opportunities that exist in the Boston area,' said Marc Le Bozec, ceo of BioProtein Technologies. 'Our new office will enable us to market more effectively the attractions of transgenic rabbits for the production of proteins within this important biotech community.'
