Genzyme acquires Lisfarma

Cambridge, MA, US-based, Genzyme General has acquired Lisfarma Importacao, Exportacao e Comercio, a privately held pharma and medical company based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The transaction, in which Genzyme has obtained all the government licences granted to Lisfarma, will allow Genzyme to seek registration of Renagel (sevelamer hydrochloride), a phosphate binder for patients with end-stage renal disease on dialysis, in Brazil, two years sooner than would have been possible on its own.
