High speed labeller reduces costs

A VAL550 high speed pharmaceutical labeller from Newman Labelling Systems, of London, has been integrated with an existing Dividella packing line at the Janssen Pharmaceutica plant in Beerse, Belgium. The installation enables filled containers to be labelled and packed without any need for manual handling between the two operations and has allowed Janssen to reduce costs by replacing three offline print and apply systems.

The VAL550 is applying self-adhesive labels to glass ampoules in five sizes and a single size of vial at speeds of up to 500 containers/minute. The labelled containers are then transferred automatically to the infeed of the Dividella packing line. A Newman Easisplice 470 carries out automatic label splicing, eliminating downtime for label replenishment. An Opendte Printmaster 1000 hot foil coder and Laetus 6012 Pharma bar code reader are also incorporated in the Newman equipment. The company also provided Janssen with a fully validated product and label security system.
