Peli BioThermal has announced expanded dry ice shipper options to support growth in cell and gene therapy shipments worldwide, as well as the continued need to transport pandemic payloads. Available parcel sizes range from 1.1 L to 179 L and cover temperature ranges of -65 to -20 °C.
“Cell and gene therapies are highly individualised and patient-centric, which creates a drastically different supply chain than we see for mass-produced pharmaceutical products,” said Greg Wheatley, VP of Worldwide New Product Development and Engineering at Peli BioThermal. “This supply chain introduces individuals who are not always familiar with cold chain packaging. Our job is to make easy-to-use temperature controlled solutions for these applications.”
Peli’s expanded range of dry ice parcels can reportedly replace liquid nitrogen systems on short journeys that include a courier. The parcels are available in the company’s single-use Sherpa Systems and DeepFreeze shippers, as well as the reusable Crēdo Cube shippers. The Sherpa Systems shippers range from 5 L to 179 L, DeepFreeze products are available in 1.1 L to 8 L sizes, and Crēdo Cube shippers range from 5 L and 17 L.
Sherpa Systems use expanded polystyrene insulation and are molded with density to achieve required performance standards. DeepFreeze and Crēdo Cube shippers feature vacuum insulated panels that protect the payload and require less dry ice, lowering transportation costs. Dry ice products provide frozen payload protection with durations from 96 hours to 225 hours, the company says.
All the company’s shippers undergo constant stress tests in ambient temperatures of 30 °C to ensure the payload remains within temperature range for expected durations.
