ISPE looks at pharma future
The central region committee of the ISPE is organising the Annual ISPE UK event in Stratford-upon-Avon on November 17.
The topical subject for the meeting is: 'What is the future of UK pharmaceutical manufacturing?'. Following an introduction by the chairman, Nick Morris, president of Global PharmaChem, Dr Richard Barker, director general of the ABPI, will give the Keynote lecture, setting out the ABPI's view on the status of the British pharmaceutical industry. This will be followed by lectures on different aspects of trends in the UK drug industry, with talks from William Powlett-Smith, a partner at Ernst and Young, and Professor Russell Smith, ceo, Business Boffins.
The afternoon session will ask: 'How can we face the challenge and manufacture successfully?'. This will consist of short overviews of British successes, initiatives and innovations in the Pharma Industry. The speakers will be Crawford Brown, Eden BioPharm; Professor Ian Sutherland, Brunel University; Kevin Unwin, Norgine; Dr David Mead, Delta Biotechnology; and Ben Brudenell from The Boots Company. The final lecture is entitled 'The Regulatory Perspective', and will be discussed by Gerald Hedell, director, Inspection and Enforcement, of the MHRA.
The usual tabletop displays and Annual Dinner will also take place.
