It all starts in a lab: Telstar at Expoquimia 2026

Published: 2-Jun-2026

Telstar showcases laboratory and R&D solutions designed to support pharmaceutical and biotech companies from early research through seamless scale-up to industrial production

Under the guiding theme “It all starts in a lab”, Telstar will present its portfolio of laboratory and R&D solutions at Expoquimia in Barcelona (Pavilion P2, Booth 94). Visitors will discover lyophilization equipment, ultra-low temperature freezers, as well as laminar flow and biological safety cabinets tailored to laboratory and R&D environments, all engineered to provide pharmaceutical and biotech companies with reliable production processes from the very beginning.

“Every new drug begins with research in a laboratory, and the quality of these first laboratory steps has a direct impact on future production success,” explains Roberto Buzzi, Global Sales Manager R&M Division at Telstar. “From there, we accompany our customers along their entire lifecycle up to industrial production, with a seamless scale-up path supported by our full-line competence.”

Expert lyophilization solutions for R&D and scale-up

Freeze-drying, or lyophilization, is a crucial step in both R&D and scaled-up production of pharmaceuticals. At Expoquimia, Telstar demonstrates its more than 60 years of experience with the LyoQuest table-top laboratory freeze-dryer range for vials and ampoules. With its compact design and simple plug-and-play set-up, it is ideal as a first lyophilization solution for small-scale research applications.

Automatic, semi-automatic, and manual operating modes allow laboratory staff to fully control, study, and optimize process parameters. The series also includes the LyoQuest Arctic, which uses natural refrigerants to support long-term compliance with upcoming European regulations on fluorinated refrigerants.

For customers looking to bridge the gap between laboratory and production environments, the LyoBeta Mini freeze-dryer delivers industrial capabilities in a table-top solution. With its shelf temperature range from -55°C to 70°C and functionalities like larger systems, it is ideally suited for formulation development and subsequent scale-up, small series of high-value drugs, or individualized medication.

Safe air for laboratory and healthcare settings

Safe and controlled environments are equally essential in pharmaceutical research and handling. At Expoquimia, Telstar will also be showing the BiOptima biological safety cabinet range, designed to keep operators and products safe via laminar flow, HEPA filters, and Telstar’s ZEROCOAT antimicrobial coating.

The series comprises the BiOptima ONE for working with biological agents in a non-sterile environment, the Class II BiOptima, and the BiOptima CYTO designed for high-risk applications such as producing cytotoxic pharmaceuticals. These solutions support contamination control strategies and help laboratories maintain consistently high safety standards.

In contrast, the AEOLUS H Horizontal Laminar Flow Bench excels in healthcare settings such as hospitals or pharmacies. Its unidirectional, ultra-filtered laminar air flow provides a particle-free working environment for non-hazardous materials. BiOptima, BiOptima CYTO, and AEOLUS H meet the Grade A air requirements of EU GMP Annex 1.

Secure ultra-low temperature storage for every lab

With the Boreas Ultra-low Temperature Freezer range featuring upright and chest freezer options in various sizes, Telstar presents solutions for secure long-term storage of reagents, cells, and samples that fit every laboratory.

The series’ new touch screen with connectivity offers laboratory staff enhanced process transparency and control and thus helps safeguard valuable stored products. For maximum performance, up to -86°C, without bulk, Boreas uses vacuum insulation panels, while non-fluorinated natural refrigerants ensure future-proof compliance.

From lab to lifecycle partnership

With equipment competence from laboratory to large-scale industrial production, Telstar supports a smooth and reliable scale-up path from early R&D to commercial manufacturing. This is complemented by a broad service portfolio, including qualification and validation services, compliance consulting, upgrades and retrofits, as well as on-site engineering support.

In this way, Telstar helps pharmaceutical and biotech companies establish robust processes from the very first laboratory steps and sustain them throughout the entire production lifecycle.
