Lab-Plant develops new class of spray dryer

Published: 1-Feb-2003

UK-based laboratory equipment specialist Lab-Plant has launched a programmable bench-top spray dryer. The SD-06 measures just 1110 x 825 x 600 mm, including an integral compressor. It is said to produce a yield of uniform free-flowing powder in one simple process without the need to carry out additional grinding and filtering processes after drying.

All major components are integral, notably the compressor for the atomisation of the spray and the automatic jet deblocking needle. A self-priming peristaltic pump delivers the liquid from the sample container through a small diameter jet into the main chamber.

At the same time, an integral compressor pumps air into the outer tube of the jet, causing the liquid to emerge as a fine atomised spray. Heated air is then blown through the main chamber, drying the sample and producing fine solid particles usually in a free-flowing state.
