Lightweight pumps can take the heat
The Finish Thomson KC range of non-metallic magnetic drive centrifugal pumps has been expanded with the addition of pumps with closed impellers and multi-stage units. Pumps with ATEX certification are now also available, says Michael Smith Engineers, from whom the pumps are available in the UK.
The 3 Series of KC pumps is designed to deliver flow rates up to 44m3/hour and heads of up to 32 metres. They can withstand temperatures of 104°C and can handle specific gravities to 1.8. Use of Neodymium rare earth magnets, which are a fraction of the size and weight of conventional ceramic magnets, allows for a more compact design and improved performance, the company says. Combined with carbon bushings and cantilevered ceramic spindle, this gives some of the pumps a dry run capability of up to 24 hours.
Michael Smith Engineers has also introduced a metric motor adaptor for the established FMI range of dispensers and metering pumps. The new single phase and three phase AC drives are IP55 rated and therefore suitable for outdoor use. Furthermore, the company says, DC drives and motors with gearboxes can now all be close-coupled to FMI pump heads to provide robust, compact metering and dispensing units.
