Loma scores high in accuracy stakes
Loma Systems has been awarded R51 approval for its range of checkweighers by the National Weights and Measures Laboratory (NWML), a DTI agency.
As well as providing a benchmark against competitor systems, the OIML R51 standard is the certificate of conformity recognised across Europe, and will enable Loma to offer a complete range of inspection systems in the EU.
The NWML classified Loma's equipment in terms of its accuracy, readability of display, technical functionality, electronics, control and test methods. The assessment process also ensures that the checkweighers cannot be used fraudulently.
Alan Johnson, product manager for checkweighers commented: 'The over-riding trend in Europe is to harmonise metrological standards across the member states, so we decided to bring our systems into line and work towards European conformity. In terms of future legislation the EC has drafted the Measuring Instruments Directive (MID), which is currently under discussion by the Commission, so pharmaceutical manufacturers should be questioning whether their equipment suppliers are properly prepared.'
