Meggle and JV Interchem hit on the right formula

Meggle International (Germany), a subsidiary of Meggle Inc., and its Ukrainian partner JV Interchem have set up a joint venture centre of excellence in Odessa, Ukraine.

The FormulaB scientific-technological research laboratory will employ 10 highly trained scientific staff with experience in the field of solid dosage formulations. Scientific support will be provided by the r&d department of Meggle's Excipients & Technology business group, a leading producer of excipients based on lactose for the pharmaceutical industry.

This is thought to be the first time an independent laboratory has been established for the development of solid dosage pharmaceutical formulations as well as for the production of pilot batches in co-operation with a producer of excipients.

The laboratory was designed, planned and constructed by Czech company BLOCK Group in accordance with ISO 9004, 10011, EN 45001-45003, 45011-45014, pharmaceutical regulations of Ukraine and current GMP requirements. The laboratory is equipped with class D cleanrooms according to cGMP-ES.

FormulaB is equipped to carry out the following:

• Production of tablets with fully instrumented excentre press and rotary press

• Wet granulation in a fluid bed granulator or high shear granulator

• Blending, sieving, milling

• Blisterpacking

• Storage in climatic chambers for stability tests

• Analysis of powders and solid dosage pharmaceuticals

• Development of formulations for solid dosage pharmaceuticals

• Adjustment of formulations to various production conditions

• Optimisation of existing formulations

• Investigation for the selection of the most appropriate technical and/or economical production process

• Production of pilot batches for clinical trials.
