Multiplexed Proteomics
Molecular Probes will launch Multiplexed Proteomics, a radical new platform that facilitates comprehensive proteome analysis. It allows the direct detection and quantification of total and specific proteins in the same gel, using reagents that have contrasting colours.
Traditionally, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and related blotting techniques have been the core methods for protein analysis and silver staining has been the leading non-radioactive visualisation technique for very low protein levels. Advances in proteomics research have brought the need for high throughput techniques. This has exposed the limitations of absorption based technologies and has driven the development of fluorescence and luminescence based protein detection.
The Multiplexed Proteomics platform brings together Molecular Probes' new phosphoprotein stain Pro-Q Diamond; Sypro Ruby protein stain; and Pro-Q Emerald glycoprotein stains. Each is a powerful reagent in its own right. When acting in combination they enable the simultaneous detection of multiple protein targets, in a single sample, on the same gel. This allows more data to be collected from precious samples.
The approach simplifies the identification or changes in expression, post-translational protein modification in the form of phosphorylation, and glycosylation. It also allows the accurate and reproducible comparison of multiple samples.
