A new generation of bench top autoclaves from Don Whitley Scientific claims to combine reduced cycle times, innovative design, and "intelligent" software to meet the requirements of today's laboratory.
The Systec-D range includes four compact autoclaves with chamber capacities varying from 65 to 150 litres. Controlled by sophisticated software, all models offer a choice of 12 sterilisation programmes and an optional printer provides a detailed record of all essential parameters. Validation information can also be downloaded to a PC, and windows compatible software is available for comprehensive data manipulation and diagnostic protocols.
By improving temperature and pressure regulation within the chamber, the heating phase is up to 50% faster due to the advanced system and process technology, the company claims. Spray cooling is one of a number of options available to reduce cooling times by up to 90% compared with conventional autoclaves.
With enhanced safety features, the new models are said to be the first of their kind to be designed for higher pressures and the standard chamber can be safely used at 5 bar/150ºC, making it suitable for prion work. An innovative steam generation system ensures faster and more controlled heating and a range of cooling options are available to further reduce the cycle times.
