New director general for CIA

The Chemical Industries Association (CIA) has appointed Judith Hackitt as director general, following the retirement of Dr Elliot Finer. She will take up her new role on 1 April.

Hackitt joined the CIA in 1998 as director of business and responsible care after 23 years in the chemical industry. She has led a number of CIA programmes and initiatives, including the industry's work on sustainable development, confidence in chemicals programme and negotiating the sector's climate change agreement. She also represents the industry on the UK chemicals stakeholder forum and was recently appointed as a member of the government's chemicals innovation and growth team.

Commenting on her appointment, Hackitt said: 'I am looking forward to leading the Association as we work to address the many challenges our industry faces today.'
