New syringe security
Security label for syringes filled with heat-sensitive pharmaceuticals
Schreiner MediPharm has developed a new security label specifically for syringes filled with heat-sensitive pharmaceuticals. The label features inserted spacers to compensate for the different diameters of the syringe and cap, with parts of the label overlapping on the top of the cap. Any attempt to remove the label and/or the cap will visibly destroy the seal, thus clearly indicating a tampering attempt.
Current tampering protection for syringes presents problems when labelling certain heat-sensitive drugs. However, the company says these new security labels are suitable for processing on any conventional labelling equipment.
The new security would be used to protect patients from health risks resulting from improper medication, counterfeit drugs or hypodermics contaminated by previous usage, healthcare professionals must have assurance of using sterile syringes filled with original drugs.
