Speciality chemicals supplier to adopt a formulation based approach

Speciality chemicals supplier IMCD has begun a series of in-depth training sessions under a personal care academy concept, designed to equip its sales force with the necessary technical tools and trends insights required for working in the personal care industry. According to IMCD, the academy’s creation forms part of its effort to move from a raw material based approach to a more formulation-focused one. IMCD hopes it will enhance the company’s ability to evaluate which combinations of raw materials will provide the best solutions for customers.

“This is a completely different mindset; the idea is to think as a formulator does, in order to be closer to the real customer needs,” said Elena Secchi, IMCD personal care marketing manager. “Not only will this create synergies within the available portfolio but it will also allow us to develop new or alternative applications. IMCD establishes personal care academy This will enable us to expand more on our vast and valuable experiences we have built up in the countries where IMCD has presence.”

The first training session, which took place in early July at IMCD’s laboratory near Milan, Italy and included both laboratory and sales team members, took three days to complete and focused on skin care. Other sessions on sectors including hair care and toiletries will follow a similar format.
