No more O-rings for vessel sealing

Published: 22-Oct-2001

John Crane has eliminated O-rings in vessel and reactors sealing systems with the introduction of a spring-energised PRP ring for secondary and shaft sealing.

Made from PTFE, the PRP ring has full reverse pressure capability and an extremely low sliding friction. This is designed to reduce the reaction time in changing operating conditions. The ring can be used to upgrade existing designs without FDA or other material compliance problems.

The John Crane GD gas and dry lubricated system now allows the application of a dry running gas-lubricated, contacting outboard seal instead of the usual double non-contacting arrangement.
