Non-dusting desiccant canister

A patented non-dusting desiccant canister has been launched by UK company Silgel Packaging for use on high-speed packaging lines. Thanks to their shape, the DRI-MAC canisters are said to offer a 5-fold increase in automatic insertion throughput over traditional desiccant sachets. As well as removing moisture and odour from product packaging, they also eliminate loose desiccant contamination.

Sonic welding technology is used effectively to embed the Tyvek end caps into the main body of the non-toxic DRI-MAC canister, ensuring a robust seal and total product integrity. Additionally, the fully breathable Tyvek membrane at both ends of the canister ensures excellent gaseous transmission whichever way up the canister is.

In addition, rather than a label that may fall off or move, the DRI-MAC canisters are inscribed with the required safety and product information using a laser and an FDA-approved laser sensitive additive. This and the distinctive nature of the DRI-MAC canister ensure that it is easily distinguished from the packaged product to prevent accidental ingestion.

'Using our years of experience in the desiccant market we recognised the insertion and contamination issues that pharmaceutical manufacturers were facing with traditional sachet and other less robust canister technologies,' said Alan Newbold, sales and marketing director, Silgel Packaging. 'We have made a significant investment in developing DRI-MAC and its patented manufacturing technology to guarantee pharmaceutical product safety.'
