Powder and particle technology specialist Hosokawa Micron has created a new management structure aimed at growing the business. Brian Hope moves from financial director to managing director, taking over from David Fell, who is retiring. Andrew McLeish has been appointed manager of the powder and particle processing division, and Iain Crosley becomes Micron's UK technical manager.

Darren Eaton has been promoted to product inspection service manager at Thermo Goring Kerr, manufacturer of high performance x-ray inspection equipment. Meanwhile, sister company Thermo Allen Coding has appointed Fred Pratlett as its new sales engineer, responsible for increasing sales of hot foil and thermal transfer coding and marking equipment.

With effect from the beginning of January Ulf Joensson becomes the new ceo of Biacore International. He takes over from Lars-Goeran Andren, who for health reasons is to play a less active role in the day-to-day development of the company and will become non-executive chairman.

Ian Page becomes chief executive of Dechra Pharmaceuticals following the resignation of Gary Evans. He was appointed to the board in 1997 at the time of the MBO and has played a key role in the group's growth strategy.

Meditelligence has reinforced its expansion by setting up local operations in the UK and appointing Malcolm McIntyre as business development manager for UK and France in its PocketPharma mobile clinical trials business. McIntyre has more than 20 years' experience in the pharmaceuticals industry and has particular expertise in mobile electronic data capture and electronic data management.

Mike Kallelis has been named executive vice president and general manager – North America for Avecia Biotechnology. He was formerly chief operating officer for Boston BioSystems, acquired by Avecia in 1999.

Dr Tony Bastock OBE, group managing director of Contract Chemicals, has been elected the new president of the Chemical Industries Association in the UK. He was formerly a vice president of the CIA and chairman of its business and trade board, and is a member of the Government's advisory committee on business and the environment.

Air containment company Labcaire Systems has expanded its UK sales operation with the appointment of Jim Clauson as a UK technical sales representative. Based in Scotland, he will be responsible for sales and technical support for new and existing customers in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
