The Swiss cold and heat specialist company Ismatec has appointed Berndt Goldmann as chief executive officer. Goldmann will be responsible for Ismatec in Switzerland, as well as for the interests of the German subsidiary Ismatec Laboratoriumstechnik.

Goldmann comes from an engineering background within the energy sector. Ismatec develops and produces tubing pumps and driving mechanisms for ceramic piston pumps and gear pump heads.

Dr Carey Bottom has been appointed a non-executive director to Cambridge-based BioProgress Technology, a subsidiary of BioProgress International. Before taking up a position as president and ceo of PharmaCore in the US in October last year, Dr Bottom was the chief operating officer of LDS Technologies.

The Process Industries Centre for Manufacturing Excellence (PICME) has appointed Greg Watts and Ian Cavanagh as manufacturing improvement engineers. Watts joins PICME from Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, a Johnson & Johnson MSD company, and Cavanagh comes from Cussons UK in Manchester. Both have experience in process improvement techniques and projects.

Walsall-based progressing cavity pump manufacturer Netzsch Nemo has appointed Chris Tipping as area sales engineer for northern England. Tipping's experience in the progressing activity pump industry will strengthen the company's UK sales team.

Ian Graham has been appointed UK project manager for the ProMinent-Knick range of products for ProMinent Fluid Controls. Graham joins the company from Mettler-Toledo where he had seven years sales experience in similar product and market areas, working with clients including GSK and Zeneca.

Andy Warne has been appointed managing director of TNT Container Logistics, a leading company in the hire of intermediate bulk containers (IBC). Warne, formerly managing director of Arca Systems, will spearhead TNT Container Logistics' growth in Europe and expand its position in the container logistics market.

Thermo Goring Kerr has appointed Denis Alcock as customer services manager to its plant at Rugby where the field service department has just relocated.

Alcock has been with the company in various roles for 20 years.

Fisher-Rosemount has brought in Mitchell Lewis to be part of the PlantWeb and DeltaV process automation systems sales team for the north of England. Lewis was previously sales manager for metering systems with Daniel Industries. The company will shortly be renamed Emerson Process Management to reflect its links with the parent company in the US, Emerson.

Lonza Group has made two senior management appointments. Dr Lukas Utiger is head of business sector exclusive synthesis. Markus Gemuend becomes head of business sector Lonza Biologics.

Drug development company Ricera has announced two

appointments to its Scientific Advisory Board. Dr George Wellman retired from GlaxoSmithKline in January, where he was vice president, chemical development worldwide. Dr Jerome Birnbaum is a co-founder of Achillion Pharmaceuticals, New Haven, CT, US, a biotechnology company involved with the discovery and research and development into innovative anti-infective agents.
